Coleman Model 242C

Single Mantle Lantern

Born in October 1945

Condition: User

Here's your chance to own what is quite possibly the ugliest functioning 242C on the planet!

Obviously someone long ago painted the fount of this lantern black. Over the years this black paint has partially fallen off. If one wanted to, they could scratch off the rest of the black stuff with a fingernail. But then you'd still have an ugly lantern, but without the character.

Lantern was disassembled and rebuilt. Valve stem packing and filler cap gasket are new, generator and check valve were cleaned and reused. I did not attempt to add any shine to the frame or frame rest. It did not come to me with a globe so it will ship with a Coleman replacement. Ventilator has chipping and dings in the usual places.

The bottom of the fount does have some rust spots, but none are significant or deep. The camera could not capture the date very well--with a naked eye you can see the "5" fairly clearly, although it could be a 6 I guess. The "10" is readable but I can't find it in the photo. It is buried in a paint blob.

Pretty? No. An awesome light producing machine? YES!

Asking price is $55.00 plus shipping.

This item is boxed and ready to ship. The box weighs 4.5lbs and measures 16"x11"x11". Use those measurements and a shipping zip code of 83858 at the USPS or UPS website for an estimate. We use Pirate Ship to save on shipping costs and have never charged a shipping or handling fee.

First come, first served. No warranty, sold as-is.
