Old Town Coleman's "Ready to Ship"
Coleman Model 202 Single Mantle Lantern
Undated early (1954) Version
Condition: Very Good
Early undated #202 with ceramic burner cap. Fount bottom has a silvery tin coating that hides any date stamp, if it has one. It has been disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt. The valve stem packing and fuel filler cap gasket were replaced. It burns as intended.
It was really weathered when I got it, up to and including the original decal that was gone. The nickel was really dull and foggy, the glass was blackened and everything had that look of not being touched in many years. Most of the shine came back but there are still a few areas of haze that I was unable to get out. You might try more elbow grease...!
The ventilator has three chips on top, and one on the lower edge.
Something wet got inside the frame and dripped down on the frame rest. It destroyed a small piece of nickel plate. You can see this in the closeup photo, look right above where it says "202". It must have happened some time ago because the area was rubbed on or scratched at long before all the patina went on. None of my cleaning products or methods would ever scratch like that. But now it just looks like a small brassy area about the size of a dime.
The generator that was on it appeared brand new, so I left it. The decal is a reproduction and in the same location/position as the original.
There is a haze around the upper edge of the globe that did not come out during cleaning. It is heat induced, not smoke damage. With the ventilator installed, you cannot see this area.
Overall, a really nice early 202 that will look great sitting in a display or lighting the camp area.
