Old Town Coleman's "Ready to Ship"
Coleman Model 242C
Single Mantle Lantern
Born in March of 1950
Condition: Excellent
This dirty old lantern turned out to be a wonderful surprise! It looks like it was used once or twice, then forgotten about. A lantern sitting in it's box for 70+ years would not look much better this one. The photos do it no justice and the closeups of then nickel show the shine much better than the others.
Not only does it look great, it also is one of the last 242 series lanterns ever made. It all came to an end in late 1950 and this one (a few months from the end) came with a different ball nut, and the odd pump cap. Yes, the pump cap is original. The cap does not have lettering or an oil hole and the two small machine screws are polarized vertically.
Please note that there is one area of road rash on the upper lip of the ventilator, directly above one of the bail slots, and 2-3 very small chips in the enamel that are hard to see.
This globe ("Coleman" no logo) might be a few years early for 1950. I would say possible but unlikely that it is the original, but it's the one I found under the dust and it will be on the lantern when she leaves.
Torn apart, cleaned inside and out and rebuilt--she's ready for 70 more years, but does hope for more burn time...
