Kerosene Marine Stove

circa 1940s

Condition: Very Good

Got a boat? Here's your stove.

I have seen Kenyon alcohol stoves before, but I didn't know they made a kerosene one. Prior to this stove landing in my lap, Coleman's 345 Marine Stove was the only kerosene unit I had ever played with.

So I goofed around with it, cleaned it up a bit and got her burning. There isn't much info available on this stove, but from what I found, it looks like the engineers at Kenyon hand-made these kero burners from their alcohol burners for these few stoves. I looked closely at the plumbing wrapping them and chose not to disassemble. They sure look cool.

The NRV was plugged. I had to cut a slot in a screwdriver as a tool to get it out and it works well now. The pump works about 50% of the time. It has a really odd neoprene pump cup that I did not see any way to get out. I wrapped inside with flower wire to expand it a little, and it worked somewhat. I was able to get the stove fully pressurized, but it took more pumping than it should have.

The filler cap gasket was bad and I found it very close to a Coleman 427 gasket, so it got one.

I blew out the burner assembly best I could. After a full-length preheating, both burners came to life and burned well although colorfully at times. Once it settled down, all was good and the stove burned hot, and down to simmer very well.

There are three splashes of old paint on the back of the stove that I chose to leave there. The edges of the three blue decals are lifting due to old adhesive. The Warning label actually came off but will stay on when pressed down. I touch of fresh glue will help.

The stove looks great and is very clean. I suspect that it might be the only authentic kerosene stove you'll see today. Probably tomorrow too.
